What we did in
2002...
In the beginning...

There was Sappho
of Lesbos (<--where the term "lesbian" came from!), who wrote
poetry based on the relationships between women in about 610-580 B.C.E.
Her work raises questions today as to whether lesbianism was accepted
pre-Freud.
Queen Victoria outlawed male
homosexuality... lesbianism was not mentioned because she believed that
"ladies did not partake in such activities"... or for other
reasons? >:) Either way, in terms of queer theory we do not like her
much.
A while later (1969) there was Stonewall -
the riots of Stonewall mark a significant time in queer history. More
information here--> The Stonewall Riots
In 2002 there was WAQD. And it was
good. And there was much rejoicing! In order 'get to know' the makers of
this site a little better (if you dare) --> Bunch of Fags
What we have done so far (2003)
 |
A video screening of "Show
Me Love" aka Fucking Amal. A lovely Swedish Coming Out
movie. About 12+ people turned up for the free tea, coffee, lollies
and chips. And the movie too. |
 |
A 2nd Hand Shopping trip!
It was a bit early on a Saturday... (midday! ugh). However, we still
managed to pull about 5 people to come out and look for bargains
galore. We then went to Arc and had coffee, all in all it was very
pleasant. |
 |
An Ice Skating Evening.
This was much more successful than we hoped, about 18 people turned up
to get on the ice and give it a go! Boys were welcome to this one, it
was a great encouraging atmosphere all-round. |
 |
Gone to see "Julie
Johnson" as a group at the Outakes Film Festival. A movie about
two friends who are married women (starring Courtney Love) who leave their
husbands. It's worth a watch, but if you're out for that
running/driving off into the sunset (Bound style!) then uhm, this isn't the
one for you. |
 | We did a video screening of
"But I'm a Cheerleader" at Clubs and Socs. Again well over 10
people turned up which was great - I'm not sure the type of humour was for
everyone but it was a good night. For me, I'm into these movies that are
cheesy and more cheesy... |
